Rapid Banta was founded in 2003 by Joff Field and Marc Abrahams. In the summer of 2004 Marc Abrahams split from Joff to form Rapid Banta B, with a squad comprised partly of a group of school friends, together with returnees from Manchester University. Rapid Banta B became the first franchise of club Rapid Banta, a decision taken in order to benefit from sharing the various costs and administrative burdens that are associated with running an amateur football club. The B team rose quickly through the Maccabi League, finishing second in division five in season 2004/05, and being rewarded with double promotion. In season 2005/06 Banta B secured second place in division three, sufficient to achieve promotion once again. In division two Banta has struggled for consistency and shown so far unfulfilled promise in failing to mount a promotion push. A below mid table finish in season 06/07 was followed by a similar position in 07/08 following the merger of the two original Banta squads. 08/09 then saw a battle against relegation which was avoided thanks to a great run of results from January onwards. In 09/10 it is hoped that with some new signings in key areas Banta can challenge in the top half of the table. |
